Best Reseller Hosting for Web Designers (2026): Cost per Client

Posted Sep 21, 2026

The best reseller hosting for web designers is a white-label cPanel plan that includes a billing app and costs under $2 per client account at renewal, so hosting sits inside a care plan as a quiet, profitable line. For most design studios that is ChemiCloud, because Blesta (or WHMCS from the Grow tier up) comes with the plan and every client account is isolated. If the lowest cost per client matters more than bundled billing, KnownHost is cheaper at every client count we modelled, provided you accept its 3-year term.

Skip reselling altogether if you don't want to answer your clients' hosting questions. You'll be their first line of support whichever host sits behind you, and the margin is payment for that work. Prices below are as listed on 20 Oct 2026, and every renewal figure sits next to its intro price, because the renewal is what your care plan has to carry.

What designers should look for

Rank a reseller plan the way a care plan uses it. Four things decide whether hosting stays a profitable add-on or turns into a second job. Cost per client account at renewal comes first, because a promotional rate lasts one term and your clients stay for years. Next is the billing app: WHMCS or Blesta in the plan saves a licence fee that can be larger than the hosting bill itself. Then isolation, so one client's runaway plugin can't slow the other sites. Last is white-labelling, meaning private nameservers and a branded cPanel, so clients see your studio and not the host.

Raw disk space and "unlimited" claims barely matter for brochure and small WordPress sites. Account caps do, because they set how many clients a plan can hold before you move up a tier. Our best reseller hosting ranking scores every host on these factors; this page narrows the field to what a design studio needs.

Cost per client account at 10, 25 and 50 clients

We divided each plan's monthly renewal price by the number of client accounts, using the smallest plan that fits each client count. It's the honest unit for a studio, because you pay for the plan whether it holds 10 sites or 40. All three hosts in the chart publish a renewal figure we could read on 20 Oct 2026. HostPapa lists its renewal rates on a separate page, and they change with the renewal term, so it sits in the table below rather than in the chart.

Bar chart of monthly renewal cost per client account. At 10 clients: KnownHost $1.70, ScalaHosting $2.00, ChemiCloud $3.50. At 25 clients: KnownHost $0.68, ScalaHosting $1.40, ChemiCloud $1.40. At 50 clients: KnownHost $0.44, ChemiCloud $0.70, ScalaHosting $1.00.

Three things stand out. KnownHost is cheapest at every size: Basic+ renews at $16.96 a month for 25 cPanel accounts, and Standard+ renews at $22.06 for 50. The catch is that its listed intro prices ($9.98 and $12.98) are "based on 3 year commitment", so you prepay for three years to get them. ScalaHosting's cPanel tiers renew at $19.95 (20 accounts), $34.95 (40) and $49.95 (60), and its first term is discounted by a percentage shown on the page. ChemiCloud's Kickstart renews at $34.95 for 40 accounts, or for 60 in its accounts-optimized version, which trades storage (40 GB instead of 60 GB) for headroom. So it's dearest per client when you only have 10, level with ScalaHosting at 25, and second only to KnownHost at 50.

At 25 clients every option costs well under $2 per client a month. On a care plan priced at tens of dollars, that difference is small next to your own time. The bigger swing is the billing software, which the next section covers.

Two rows need a second look. Hosting.com, which A2 Hosting became (a2hosting.com now redirects there), runs its reseller plans on the Enhance control panel rather than cPanel/WHM. That's fine if you start fresh, and its migrations team will import cPanel backups, but it's still a panel change if your clients' sites already sit in cPanel. Namecheap's account caps are set per tier (25, 100 or 150), and WHMCS is a paid add-on there. Its Plus licence alone is $27 a month, more than KnownHost's whole Basic+ plan costs at renewal.

Count the billing licence as part of the hosting bill. A plan that's $5 cheaper but needs a $27 WHMCS add-on is the expensive plan.

Why ChemiCloud still fits most design studios

ChemiCloud earns the designer pick on workflow, not price. Kickstart includes Blesta, and Grow and above include either WHMCS or Blesta, so invoices, renewals and new-account provisioning run from day one without a separate licence. Every cPanel account is isolated with CloudLinux and CageFS and gets up to 3 GB RAM and 2 CPU cores, so a client's heavy plugin stays that client's problem. Clients reach cPanel on an address at your own domain and see your private nameservers. ChemiCloud says it tells a client who contacts it directly nothing about you.

Onboarding is the other draw. Its migrations team moves existing cPanel accounts and your WHMCS or Blesta install at no charge. The offer is time-limited after signup, so request it early. There's a 45-day money-back guarantee on reseller plans. The trade-off is the renewal: Kickstart's $17.95 first-term rate becomes $34.95 a month, roughly $3.50 per client at 10 clients. Plan your care-plan pricing on that renewal number, then compare it with ChemiCloud's current reseller plans on the day you buy, because promotions here change often.

KnownHost: the lowest cost per client

If you'd rather keep billing in a tool you already use, such as an invoicing app or a WHMCS licence you own, KnownHost is the low-cost route. All four managed cPanel reseller tiers renew at less than a dollar per account when full: Basic+ is $9.98 renewing at $16.96 for 25 accounts and 40 GB NVMe, and Premium+ is $29.98 renewing at $50.96 for 100 accounts and 200 GB. Plans are white-label with custom nameservers. WHMCS is an optional add-on, not included.

Read the term carefully. KnownHost's prices are "based on 3 year commitment", and a reading from outside the US on the same day showed different promotional figures, so pricing depends on the promo and possibly your location. We couldn't read KnownHost's refund window on the reseller page, so ask before you prepay three years. If those terms suit, its reseller tiers give a designer the most room per dollar.

The other hosts worth knowing

ScalaHosting suits studios with fewer clients that want cPanel at a published renewal, from $19.95 for 20 accounts. Its cloud reseller line runs SPanel instead of cPanel and allows unlimited accounts on dedicated resources: Entry Cloud renews at $39.95 a month with 2 CPU cores and 2 GB RAM, and on 20 Oct 2026 a sale on that page listed its first term at $11.21 a month. SPanel carries no licence fee, which matters as cPanel's own prices keep rising, and it's the step before a server of your own. See ScalaHosting's reseller options. HostPapa lists a WHMCS licence on all five reseller tiers, from Bronze at $14.95 a month on a 36-month term (20 accounts). Its renewal page puts Bronze at $29.99 a month on a 3-year renewal and $44.99 month to month, so check which term you'll renew on before you commit.

An earlier version of this page called FastComet's renewals flat. They aren't: its service agreement says promotional prices apply to the first term only and renewals bill at the regular rate. We couldn't read FastComet's reseller prices, so we leave it out of the cost comparison. When clients start needing custom software or guaranteed resources, look at a VPS instead. We weigh that move in reseller hosting vs VPS for an agency.

Decision flow with four questions. Want billing software in the plan: ChemiCloud or HostPapa. Lowest cost per client and a 3-year term is fine: KnownHost. Avoid cPanel licence costs: ScalaHosting SPanel cloud. Heading past 100 clients: Namecheap or Hosting.com top tiers.

How to package hosting into a care plan

The money for designers is in a monthly care plan sold as one fee, not in hosting sold on its own. A typical plan bundles hosting, software updates, backups, security monitoring, a set allowance of small changes and a monthly report. Run the numbers at 25 clients on a care plan of $99 a month, a figure we use for illustration only. That's $2,475 coming in. The hosting underneath costs $16.96 (KnownHost Basic+) to $34.95 (ScalaHosting Scala 2 or ChemiCloud Kickstart) at renewal, between 0.7% and 1.4% of revenue.

So the hosting line hardly moves your margin. What moves it is your time per client and any licence you pay for separately. We go through the per-site arithmetic in how to price reseller hosting to clients. The rule from that page holds here too: never let a client see the raw hosting price. Sell a maintained, fast, secure site with a named person who answers.

Onboarding a client's existing site cleanly

Most designer hosting relationships start by moving a site you built onto your own plan. Create the cPanel account, copy the site in and test it on a temporary URL. Check that email and contact forms still work. Lower the domain's DNS time-to-live a day ahead, then switch the nameservers to your private ones and watch propagation before you cancel the old host. ChemiCloud's free migrations cover whole batches of cPanel accounts and keep sites live at the old host until you switch DNS. A move the client never notices is their first experience of you as their host.

What to put in a care-plan contract

Write the scope down. List what the fee includes (hosting, updates, backups, monitoring, a fixed number of small changes, a report) and what you bill separately, such as new pages or a redesign. Set support hours and response times. State what happens when a client leaves: you hand over a full backup and the domain stays in their name. Clear scope stops a care plan drifting into unlimited free work. It also gives you grounds to pass on price rises, including any your host passes on after cPanel licence increases.

Edge cases designers run into

  • A client needs email for 30 staff. Reseller cPanel mail works, but heavy mailboxes eat storage and support time. Point bigger teams to a dedicated email service and keep hosting for the site.
  • One store outgrows shared resources. Per-account isolation keeps it from hurting the others, but it will hit its own limits. Move it to a VPS or managed WooCommerce host rather than upgrading the whole reseller plan.
  • You already own a WHMCS licence. Bundled billing is worth less to you. Compare on renewal cost per client, which favours KnownHost.
  • A client wants to leave with their site. Keep domains registered in the client's name, so leaving is a clean handover rather than a dispute.

None of these is a reason to avoid reselling. They're reasons to pick a host whose limits and add-ons you understand before the first client asks.

Turning hosting into a retention tool

The quiet benefit of hosting your clients is that they stay. Leaving means moving a site, email and DNS away from someone who has always just handled it, and that inertia is worth more than the monthly margin. It steadies your income and gives you a regular reason to check in, spot new work and stay front of mind. Price the plan fairly and deliver reliable, invisible service, and hosting turns a one-off website project into years of recurring work. Reseller hosting for designers: FAQ

What is the best reseller hosting for web designers?
ChemiCloud for most studios, because a billing app (Blesta, or WHMCS from Grow up), per-account isolation and white-label cPanel come in the plan. KnownHost is cheaper per client at renewal if you accept a 3-year commitment and bring your own billing tool. Prices as listed on 20 Oct 2026.
Should web designers resell hosting?
Yes, if you'll handle your clients' first-line questions. Hosting slots into a care plan, adds recurring revenue and keeps clients with you. If you don't want any support role, refer clients to a host directly instead.
How much does reseller hosting cost per client?
At renewal, roughly $0.68 to $1.40 per client a month at 25 clients on the plans we checked: KnownHost Basic+ $16.96/25, ScalaHosting Scala 2 $34.95/25, ChemiCloud Kickstart $34.95/25. At 10 clients it rises to $1.70-$3.50.
What is a web design reseller?
A designer or agency that buys a reseller hosting plan wholesale, creates a cPanel account for each client and bills them under the studio's own brand, usually inside a monthly care plan that covers updates, backups and support.
Do reseller plans include WHMCS?
Some do. ChemiCloud includes WHMCS or Blesta from Grow up (Blesta on Kickstart), and HostPapa lists a WHMCS licence on all tiers. KnownHost, ScalaHosting and Namecheap leave the licence to you or sell it as an add-on, and Hosting.com offers WHMCS at a discounted $5.
